A routine
- After outdoor time, check every pet: ears, between toes, armpits, groin, around the tail and under collars.
- Remove ticks promptly. Record the date, pet and location on the body.
- Use preventives your vet recommends for each species. Dogs and cats differ.
- Wash bedding and check yourself and children.
Watch for signs
The CDC says signs of tickborne disease may not appear for 7 to 21 days or longer. Note any changes in behavior or appetite per animal.
